Shrewsbury Public Library Addition and Renovation
Key Features
- The historic 1903 library needed significant upgrading and expansion to meet the community’s needs
- A new 32,000 square-foot addition was constructed to support the current and projected needs of children, young adult, adult and staff spaces
- The building is now fully accessible and includes spaces for a learning center for technology, public computer stations, group study, community use including a multi-purpose meeting room and commons area, and a climate controlled local history room
- Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems were replaced entirely with new energy efficient systems, a fire protection sprinkler system, and a state-of-the-art “automated materials handling system” that tracks and sorts library products has been installed
- Site improvements include the addition of approximately 50 parking spaces, an outdoor children’s area, and all new site lighting and utilities
