A Boost to the Arts in Worcester

Helping to transform a deteriorating historic building into a functional and attractive space is among the most gratifying projects an architectural firm could take on. Seeing the Creative Hub celebrating their newly renovated space earlier this month was an unforgettable milestone, for the team at LPA|A and the wider community. Knowing that the building will be used in support of creative expression for all ages was an especially inspiring and exciting aspect of the project.

The newly renovated 1914 building includes a maker space, artist studios, classrooms, an art gallery, and a 4,000 square foot event space.

“I am so proud of the work that our team did in partnership with Creative Hub to finally see this project come to fruition,” said LPA|A Principal Sean Brennan. “Preserving historic buildings like this one at 2 Ionic Ave. and supporting the arts in Worcester are two things that our whole firm is passionate about. I am excited about the limitless possibilities for this unique space.”

Commitment to the community is a core value for the firm, and support for the arts is one way LPA|A demonstrates that commitment. Recently the firm offered volunteer hours as well as financial support to Arts Worcester’s inaugural Future Arts Workers Program. This paid apprenticeship program for Worcester High School students provided weekly workshops over the course of the school year, developing skills in leadership, collaboration, organization, creative and critical thinking. The program culminated in a public exhibition that students planned and executed with the skills they had gained.

Earlier this month, the firm also co-sponsored activities of AIA’s Architecture Week in the region. Sean Brennan volunteered his time reading the book, “My Town, Mi Pueblo” to students at the Worcester Dual Language Elementary School, meeting with third graders at Gates Lane Elementary to talk about architecture and provide feedback on their projects,  as well as moderating a panel discussion about LPA|A’s renovation of the Hanover Theatre, which has served as a renowned venue for performing arts in the region for more than 15 years and has been a catalyst for economic development in the City.
