National Industry “Roadshow” Stops at Doherty High

Last month Doherty Memorial High was visited by the Engineering and Public Works Roadshow, where the school, city, and design and engineering teams were recognized for both the energy efficient design of the building and the efforts made to expose students to the range of careers across the engineering and architecture industries. The roadshow is a joint effort by the American Council of Engineering Companies, the American Public Works Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Doherty was their 20th stop over the past three years, during which they have been crisscrossing the country showcasing examples of engineering and public works projects that are having a positive impact on the community and industry.

“The design and construction of this facility, what we dubbed Doherty 2.0, was my first experience working on a new school building project and I was both impressed and encouraged by the intentional planning process that guided it,” said Doherty Principal John Staley.

“What has been especially powerful is the way this building project became a learning opportunity for students. Many visited the construction site, some served as interns, and others heard directly from project team members who visited their classrooms. This project didn’t just build a school — it helped to build understanding and inspiration among the next generation of engineers, architects, and civic leaders. It was truly inspiring to witness how well the city, school department, architects, construction teams and project managers worked together over so many years to bring this vision to life.”
